Jewelry Hacks with Household Items from Your Daytona Jewelry Repair Experts

4/6/2021

It’s time for your Daytona jewelry repair experts here at Masterpiece Jewelers to talk about hacks.

There are some very popular jewelry stories on the Internet, and we’ve definitely watched our fair share of them! But what really works? Well, as your local, Daytona jewelry repair experts, there are a few things you should know before you try these hacks.
Do you need to visit your local, Daytona jewelry repair experts to get that ring off?!
Do you need to visit your local, Daytona jewelry repair experts to get that ring off?!
1. Use Windex to get a stuck ring off your finger.
You’ve probably seen this on “Oprah” and in the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” where they use this cleaning produce to cure and help with anything.

Well, in our store, we use it to clean all of the glass and showcases. Plus, it’s a good thing to use if your ring is stuck on your finger!

If you spray it on your finger, it works better than butter, lotion, soap, or anything. And it’s very efficient because it evaporates right away so it doesn't gunk up your ring or your hand like other things can.

On a side note, if you do get your ring stuck on your finger, you don’t necessarily have to go to the emergency room. In Daytona, Florida and other areas, you can just drive to the nearest fire station, and they will cut the ring off for you. Many jewelers won’t do this because of liability insurance so at least this gives you an option.

2. Slide your jewelry through straws to avoid tangling.

Many of us have tangled jewelry just sitting in our jewelry boxes that we simply can’t wear. Well, here is something absolutely foolproof that you can do to avoid this!

Slide your chains through a section of straw and then clasp it shut. This will keep your chains from knotting up, and it’s a great way to recycle your plastic straws!

And if you do have a ball of jewelry knots, do not throw it away! Bring it into our store, and we’ll get it unknotted for you! (If you don’t live nearby, look for a jeweler near you. They can take care of it quickly and easily, and it’s usually a free or very low-cost service depending on the amount of time it takes to untangle your jewelry!)

3. Easily put on a bracelet yourself with tape.

One of our clients gave us this tip, and it’s fantastic! If you want to wear a bracelet and only have one hand to put it on, try this. Take a piece of tape and tape it near the clasp onto your wrist. Pull the other end around and hook the clasp. Then, remove the tape. Done!

This is a great tip that we've shared with many people. For example, one of our clients who came by the shop about five years ago had been collecting charm bracelets for years from her family members. Every time she had a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas, she would ask for charms, but she never put them on a bracelet.

When she retired, she thought it was time for the bracelet, so we put all of her charms on all at one time. She came into the store to pick it up and absolutely loved it. But she couldn't put it on because it was just chasing around her arm and would not stop!

Then, I shared this trick with her, and she was relieved! So, stop being frustrated with your jewelry and wasting time trying to clasp it shut. Instead, just place a piece of tape near the clasp of your wrist, and you’ll be wearing your jewelry in seconds!
